The boys on the island are at it again – saving the lives of corals that will surely perish if neglected.
Downbelow Managing Director and resident PADI Platinum Course Director Richard Swann led a small team to re-plant corals on our artificial reef blocks that they skillfully placed on the sea bed some months ago within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, KK Borneo.
The damaged corals were earlier collected by Richard and his team on their numerous dives. Now they are fixed on small cement blocks to keep them steady in an upright position. The students from an international school in KL who were here last week also helped in the process.
On hand to help Richard this time were Vui How, and our local Divemaster trainees Gary and Revor.
Downbelow is fully committed to conservation and this is one of the ways we give back to nature. We also conduct many conservation activities such as illegal net removal, daily beach cleanup and practice responsible tourism.
We hope these corals will live and continue to be a part of the marine ecosystem.
