Mabul is the popular island not far away from the more famous dive destination Sipadan.
Sipadan Mabul Resort (also known as SMART) is one of the more upmarket offerings on Mabul, with private en-suite accommodation.
With a view of Sipadan, guests of Sipadan Mabul Resort are within easy reach of one of the top 5 dive sites in there world.
The reefs and walls of Sipadan island are home to uncountable sea turtles, schooling pelagics, untold weird and wonderful critters, and Turtle Tomb, the cave system beneath Sipadan.
Sipadan is 15 minutes from Mabul island, but diving Sipadan from Sipadan Mabul Resort means being out for the whole day.
The dive boats easily accommodate this though, being large sized, with full awning and overhead storage for dry gear.
Dive surface intervals are spent and lunch is served on Sipadan island itself, on its famous wharf or walking along the beach.
The first 2 dives of the day, pending dive permits, are usually at Sipadan.
The 3rd dive around Mabul or Kapalai after a pitstop back at the SMART Resort on Mabul.
The island of Mabul is home to 3 resorts and large fishermen’s village.
The interior of Mabul island is dotted with coconut trees that are actively harvested by the villagers.
It is in this coconut grove in which Sipadan Mabul Resort lies, on the south-east side of the island from where Sipadan Island is visible.
There are 45 duplex units with a private veranda each, entirely built from locally available materials.
Each unit is equipped with oversized single beds, a sofa, windows with mosquito nets, ceiling fans, shelving and, of course, air-conditioning with en-suite bathrooms.
Communal areas at Sipadan Mabul Resort include an open-air pavilion for meals, an air-conditioned TV room with Astro (satellite TV) and a secure airing-shed for safely storing your equipment after each diving day.
Sipadan Mabul Resort Accommodation & Dive Packages
Downbelow offers a variety of bungalow, suite and chalet accommodation packages for both divers and non-divers, ranging from 2 days 1 night up to 5 days 4 nights or more at Sipadan Mabul Resort.
Detached / stand-alone chalets are in high demand and should be booked well in advance.
The diver’s package includes:

- Return airport transfers between Tawau airport and Semporna;
- Return boat transfers between Semporna and SMART Sipadan Mabul Resort;
- Air-conditioned, twin-sharing accommodation with en-suite bathroom;
- Full board meals and hot beverages at the resort (excludes alcohol, soft drinks & fruit juice);
- 3 daily boat dives at either Mabul, Kapalai or Sipadan* islands (except arrival / departure days);
- Unlimited diving from SMART Sipadan Mabul Resort’s jetty;
- Weight belt and tanks;

Dive Equipment Rental
Divers without their own equipment can rent the necessary from the SMART Sipadan Mabul Resort at the following rates payable to the resort directly, on per person per day basis:
