Since our November 2011 IDC, both Steve and Sevket have been under the careful instruction of our resident PADI Course Director Richard Swann, working towards and obtaining not 1, but 7 PADI Speciality Instructor ratings.

One of these speciality courses in particular have a special connection to Downbelow.

Back in October we wrote about the AWARE Shark Conservation Speciality course, and our very own Richard became the first Instructor and Instructor Trainer for Project AWARE’s newest speciality.

At that time Steve was doing his PADI Divemaster Internship with us, and incidentally became 1 of the first 2 divers to be qualified in the AWARE Shark Conservation Speciality.

So convinced was Richard about our 2 intern’s intention to spread the word on Shark conservation that he donated his time and taught them the AWARE Shark Conservation Speciality Instructor course for free.

They were left to only pay the PADI fees for the course, which is directly paid to Project AWARE anyway, which means everyone’s a winner.

Steve and Sevket are now AWARE Shark Conservation Speciality Instructors and can teach other divers about the importance of conserving the planet’s sharks, why we should do and the best way of going about it.
