The second ‘Ghost Net’ in the past month, has been found suffocating one of the beautiful reefs in Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park. Soon after one of our island staff team reported it to our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre, a team of our own dedicated and full time PADI professionals and Go PRO internship candidates removed the destructive marine debris! It was fitting to have conducted the dive to remove this illegally discarded fishing net on Halloween – as it’s a truly macabre sight to behold: a cycle of death and destruction of marine and life and coral reef!
Downbelow have sponsored well over 150 ghost net removals in the past decade, fully sponsoring each and every dive with operational logistics and the manpower of experienced PADI professionals. This commitment is for life so we will be continuing our support for Sabah’s local environmental authorities, as is our dedication to the Project AWARE movement to rid of marine debris!
